WHY YOU SHOULD NOT SENT TEXT MESSAGES!!

imagesApologies for the ‘in your face’ statement but texting has caused me some big problems this week, problems that would have been avoided if people had talked, me included.

EG 1.Teams text me and immediately think everything is OK – problem passed on -sorted. It’s  not! How do you know I got the text? Not often, but enough to cause concern, I receive texts that are dated 48 hours previous.  It’s worse at weekends when lots of texts are delayed .

EG 2. Wednesday team asked for week of Tuesday PM. Can I get through to talk, a rude whistle and blank – just nothing….. That one call cost me an hour from watching evening tele’. I had to open computer to access team records; three choices of teams to play; but have I? Blaine had no fixture but had, not unreasonably, made other arrangements, GRS was just going to work nights and could not contact his team until late Wednesday AM, and Newton had played same team last week, don’t think they would want same game two weeks on trot.  Problem solved when team asking to cancel thankfully solves player crisis and can play. Again I am sending texts not knowing if person is at work and can respond, has credit (regular problem) or is just ignoring phone. That’s trouble with texting you just don’t know.

EG 2.Referee texts me that team has not turned up or is late. I’m in bath phone is in car! I know, my fault phone is not in bath with me. But I do have a landline and someone was taking calls. Match problem could have been solved – it was not. I am guilty here, I sent texts to teams bring kick off time forward, I should have talked with teams. Apologies to teams who are, with good reason, aggrieved.

EG4. The best ‘til last. Get return messages telling me to stop sending texts to a number as it’s a works number. I agree and delete number. I then get call from same number and phone has been on contract to same person 3 years!

EG 5 Can you please ring … on this number, he’s on O2 and can’t ring you free as your on Orange. Times I could give up.

LESSON TO BE LEARNED?

Make sure I have contact details for more than one team player.

Make a late check that fixture kick off time has not been changed.

Be aware that asking for a cancellation or change of kick off time is a long winded process, one click and message is sent, 1 hour at my end to try sort!

Telephone if it’s important.

IT’S GOOD TO TALK  🙂
