Caistor Tigers 5 – Seven Seas 10
Score line tells its own story, Caistor need a defensive plan or two to cut down the opposition scoring ratio. Team knows it will score goals; defence needs play its part by defending as a group of 4 rather than 4 individuals. That can be pressing high/low/man for man/zonal or any other choice; just needs synchronising to suit players on court at any one time.
Second week of play for Seven Seas and they looked a far better team than week one, and that team wasn’t bad. Their presence has made league tougher for everyone.
Match 4/5
Wybers juniors 5 – Grimsby Carpet Warehouse (sm) 4
GCW are knocking on the door to being the first team to beat Wybers in a very very long time.
High quality passing from both teams; more impressive as it was against defences that never gave an inch.
The flow of goals tells its own storyline: Wybers 1-0; 1-1; 2-1; 2-2; 3-2; 3-3; 4-3; 5-3; 5-4.
Match 5/5
Synerjy 4 – Discoveries Sporting 13
Tough game to report; first it has to be recorded Synerjy regular keeper was unavailable and his stand-in was clearly not comfortable in goal. Often very good outfielders are okay in goal; this was not one of those cases. Worryingly for Synerjy Sporting hit 4 within the opening few minutes; at which point Synerjy had a purple patch closing the score to 4-5; at which point the recovery stumbled.
Half time was 4-9; I don’t get many 13 goal first halves to report, even at futsal.
Scoring slowed second period, with Sporting adding 4 more to their tally.
Sporting domination was not just because Synerjy struggled without a regular keeper; Sporting delivered, for me, their best team performance to date.
Match 3.5/5
Catenaccio 5 – Grimsby United 5
Catenaccio are hampered every week by being the only u13 team in an u14 competition; that said every week they deliver phases of passing that exceed their age. This week was no exception as they twice opened up the United team to lead 2-0. United have speed and strength in their team; a combination Cats’ struggled to handle; United pulled back to 2-2 only for Cats’ to recover the lead at half time.
Second half was breathless as both teams got ‘at each other’. 3-3; 4-3; 4-4; 5-4 – 5-5.
From start to finish a great game of futsal that was a credit to the managers and players.
