FC Grimsby equalise with 8 seconds left on clock!

Light at end of the tunnel; a patchy performance against Leeds Barca finished with the score 6-6.  At their best Grimsby were dominant, playing some great futsal; this was counter balanced by periods of poor defending.

The game opened brightly for Grimsby, they kept the ball created and missed chances and then took a deserved lead when DH passed the ball into the opposition goal top corner from 20 yards. He had a space of 2 square feet to aim at and that is where the ball went; brilliant.

We then went into a period of attack, loose the ball and pick it out
of your own net as Barca punished Grimsby mistakes on the counter. A
Grimsby time out and redress of the tactics of creating space and where
and where not to shoot from had the desired effect, Kirk Russell nicked
one back.  Then out of the blue Callum Blyth picked out a buety when
the keepers postioning gave him half a chance. A gaol on a par with
DH’s opener.  Half time 3-3.

Second half started with Grimsby
playing their best futsal this season, a period of sustained passing
eventually created a Callum Blyth opportunity and he duly obliged.  4-3
and in control, not for long our defensive achilles heal struck again
4-4.  Worse was to come Leeds struck again, 4-5 Leeds.  The second time
we have played Leeds and they have blocked Leigh Graves (Gy goal
keeper) on his line!

Leeds get another free kick, they are a team
that usually push the foul count and yet Grimsby find themselves 1-5 on
the foul count, 1 more foul and they get a free shot from 10 metres.
This free kick is brilliantly saved by Graves through a pack of
players.

The drama continues; Grimsby get a free kick on the
edge of the Leeds penalty area, Kirk and Jon Higton draw the opposition
wide, DH dispatches the ball into the top corner, 5-5.

With 2
minutes left Leeds get that free 10 meter shot, goal. 5-6.  Just how
have we got ourselves in this position? the Leeds gaol keeper has been
making saves all game, simply we have missed to many easy chances that
HAVE to be dispatched.

A time out is called, we agree we have to
push forward, take chances dribbling to create an opportunity, but not
at the expense of conceding another goal, one more opportunity will be
there. John Higton hits the post with a minute left, Leeds have the
ball, the clock is against Grimsby. We get it back one more attack,
Higton hits another shot across gaol, Kirk R gets a deflection towards
gaol, the ball hits the GK and falls to Callum B who toe pokes the ball
across the line. 6-6.

Leeds restarted with 8 seconds left showing on the cock!

Next
Sunday its down to Chester to play league leaders Tranmere Victoria, if
we can get our big guns out we can cause an upset.  Watch this space.
