Harvest Futsal Just Fail To Qualify For FA National Finals 2008

Mathew Bryant took a strong Harvest squad to Sheffield for a
3 team play off tournament with Middlesbrough Futsal and Sheffield & Hallam
teams.  Both teams are experienced futsal
teams playing in the FA Umbro National Futsal League.

Teams played a round robin format of 15 minute each way
matches.

In their opening game Harvest was drawing with Middlesbrough
2-2 until a last minute unforced error cost them the game.

‘Boro then got thrashed by Sheffield & Hallam 8-0.

Harvest then pulled off a great 2-2 draw with Sheffield
& Hallam.  From reports back, a superb
performance against one of the top 3 futsal teams in the North of England.

The Harvest performance has to be measured against the fact
that the opposition teams are clubs that train weekly to play futsal.  The Grimsby Monday Premier League is of a
very high standard, confirmed by the Harvest performance. For Mathew Bryant and
team Harvest it was an eye opener to play against organised clubs with set
plays on a fast indoor wood surface in dehydrating conditions.

Former
Tiger Tames The Whites!

A fantastic
round of games this week saw an enthralling and very competitive game between
the White Tigers and FSRC All Stars. This could be seen as a grudge match even
though they all play together in Danny Weltman’s team and the White Tigers were
snapping and snarling throughout. They didn’t however, contend with the All Star’s
number 6 and former Hull City School Of Excellence player who after having
scored a hat trick in the first three minutes, went on to dominate in a game
where he scored ten goals all together! Both goalkeepers excelled in this fast,
skilful match up but the Tigers couldn’t live with the free flowing All Stars
on this occasion. It has to be said that the Tiger’s number 5 continues to
impress though and is on the verge of getting a game with the county side at
the next tournament. Overall a wonderful display of attacking Futsal. In the
other exciting matches, the Untouchables got a confidence boosting win against
the Wanderers whose number 5 seems to have found his shooting boots, scoring
four goals. The very much older and very skilful Galacticos hammered the plucky
Humberstone lads who to this point, have not been heavily beaten by anyone.
Hopefully this will not affect their confidence, whilst Galacticos should now
kick on to give the All Stars lads some real competition.  Finally in a
very close fought tactical encounter, Clee Phoenix came from 3 down to overcome
the rapidly improving FC Evolution. The Clee Goalie was outstanding, making
several ‘sure thing’ saves and at the other end, the voice of wisdom ( Clee’s
wise young manager) directed well from the touch lines. Evolution were not
outclassed but they were stopped by a great keeping performance and must take
heart from a positive performance. Another round of excellent Futsal matches
that prove skill and strength is not just the preserve of the adults!

The
competition  so far is brilliant with many teams showing early
promise. Galacticos and the White Tigers have shown competitive spirit and
determination amongst the front runners. FC Evolution get better every week
thanks to the diligent way in which their manager Nath learns from every
opportunity and is never afraid of switching tactics. Wanderers have a
fantastic attitude to the game and seem to enjoy every minute whilst the
Untouchables have some very talented players and are slowly making positive
progress in terms of skill and team work.Clee Phoenix are a group of lads with
an incredible attitude from Lindsey school and have shown flashes of brilliance
though they do sometimes get caught out at the back. This, I am sure, will
improve with experience.Humberstone la Coruna have been a revelation, the
youngest squad in the league started very slowly with some narrow defeats in
friendlies.

They then changed personnel slightly and became a much quicker,
more positive outfit and were out muscled last week by the incredibly strong
White Tigers after being well in front in the first half. Finally I have to
mention FSRC All Stars and they are living up to their name. They are playing
some sublime Futsal and are going to be the team to beat. They have the second
youngest squad but the talent on show is mesmerising at times. They were more
than a match for the National Champions a few weeks ago only losing to the much
older and much larger Lindsey squad after being well up at half time. All in
all this league is living up to the Futsal promise of excellent, skilful games
which are fair but very competitive. Another two teams look set to join the
league next week and then we will be one of the area’s biggest junior Futsal
leagues. Top goal scorers will be included in next week’s bulletin.

Can The Beautiful Game Be Saved By Futsal?

How did English football reach one of its lowest ebbs – is it
merely a case of no home grown talent? Are our children technically inferior
and not learning the skills enjoyed by the rest of the foreign players playing
in the Premiership?

What to do now?.. Every week all over the country the future
England players may be training without ever knowing what it feels like to the
back of the net.  And because the season
runs from August – April – some months they may even have no alternative to
training in near darkness!!! Therein lies the crisis with youth football where
are the skills?

Futsal is the word which is now coming up time and again. It
should not come as a surprise that the countries that excel at Futsal – Brazil,
Spain, Italy, and Portugal – are also the
stars of the FIFA rankings.

Futsal is about creativity and technique – it is a 5 a-side game
[played on a basket ball sized pitch with a weighted ball.

Ronaldo and Ronaldinho both say that playing Futsal as
youngsters made them the players they are today.

With the future in mind the FA are now rolling out a futsal
programme to selected Schools across the Country.  Dermot Collins who is National Development
Manager believes that Futsal is an excellent Small Sided Game that teaches quick
and skilful play that can contribute to the technical development of young
players.

Redyset are therefore delighted to introduce a Futsal IGOAL
to their range of portable goals. The 3m x 2m goal is now available and braded
gaols will be rolled out to designate County’s by the FA – others available via
the online shop.

So – the future is yellow and green (colour of the
IGOAL).  See IGOALS in action on www.redyset.com and start improving the
skills anytime and anywhere.   Alternatively

Broughton Ravers & Clee Community girls teams to play at Sheffield FA Finals

Broughton RaversU12s are representing the Linconshire County FA at the FA Umbro Junior Futsal tournament at the the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on July 21st. Team manager Steve Watson hosts the web site www.footy4kids.co.uk

Brian Noble is also taking a girls team from Clee Community, their age group I am not sure.

Given the national interest in futsal a high calibre of opposition is to be expected.  Last years senior ladies tournament included teams from Watford FC and several Universities.

Communication, Communication, Communication.

Wednesday night was a organisers nightmare, one team cancelling or not being available can cause havoc, on Wednesday night it did.

Magpies II ( rock solid reliable) on a Tuesday had forgotten they had a ‘club race night’ on Wednesday, sportingly they offered to pay venue costs, as per league rules, and to concede the cup tie as they had let their opponents down.

I sent texts to last game teams could they play 7-45 and not 8-30 as planned. England on TV I thought I was home and dry on this one. One team replies OK, the other does not get back to me immediately, not unusual if people are at work.

Midday phone call warning me that 2nd game team might struggle for players as it is a cup tie and most of their players has played for other teams, I allow them time to sort and thank them for letting me know. At 5 team not sorted and game is cancelled and awarded to opponents. At 5.30 they have team! Sorry but to late, accepted in sporting spirit.

&-45 game now brought forward to 7. One team can make it the other, that subsequently has requested a 7 slot, cannot as players have work arrangements to 8!

One game out of 4 scheduled was played because 1 team cancelled.

I draw this to teams attention because it is the easiest thing in the world to cancel, it gets a problem off your shoulders, but passes the problem onto some one else.  Which is unfair.

To add insult to injury a team dropped out of the Kent St league, was immediately replaced by a team wanting a place, what happens both teams turn up to play.

Next year the Cup will split into 3 sections, Kent St. Cup – Premier Challenge Cup – Second Avenue Divisions II Cup; this will help teams as many players play for 2 or more teams – it messes the team up that the player chooses not to play for.

My apologies to the teams affected.
