Kent St vs. ECGS – What a great game!

Passing Kent St on my way homeI took the opportunity to watch the end of Inter vs. Latics with the thought that I would then leave to get home for a rather late tea.  Inter vs. Latics was a sound game, close to the end, but having missed the first 30 minutes I had not got into the flow of the game which Inter nudged 7-5.

Then game on ECGS vs. Kent St, immediately I was into the game, Kent  team was a mixture of old and new faces,  it was obvious that if the opposition was to stay with them they would have to play well.  The opposition did just that, but who were they?  Sorry lads but this was not the ECGS team I had last seen play, 9 months can make a lot of difference.  ECGS had taken on board the lessons from their past defeats, got a little older and a lot more futsal wise.  The game just developed into a great contest to watch, a game I had to watch until the finish.  Skill in abundance, disguised passing,  players finding space when none seemed available, everyone comfortable on the ball even under pressure, superb to watch.

The score 7-6 to Kent St, but on this occassion the game won.

How often when teams lose do they tell me cant play at Kent St its to slippery or Kent is to small; well both these games proved that if you have the skill you can play great futsal on small and large pitches, its a case of can you adapt to the situation before you.

FSRC 100% record continues

Last week
saw a number of fixtures cancelled due to Proms and I would envisage the same
happening this next two weeks whilst I am not here as the Prom season
continues. There were two surviving fixtures though and these were quite
exciting encounters. FSRC All Stars played some great Futsal but couldn’t find
the free flowing form that has seen them score a massive number of goals
recently. F C Evolution were again inspired and motivated although they all
seem to have a hand in the management currently? The White Tigers were staring
defeat in the face at half time as they were at times out played by a younger
and slicker Coruna side. The Tiger’s strength told in the end and they won a
thrilling second half by two clear goals. Coruna must keep going they get better
every week! The Tigers need some stability and a little less on the pitch
arguing if they are to challenge for the title, which they are definitely
capable of!

This Friday
saw all eight teams in action and  Clee Phoenix took their turn to worry
the Tigers. Once again it was the Tigers who fell behind, only to make an
astonishing comeback to draw in what was an exciting and enjoyable game to
referee. Most notably, the Clee keeper is due some recognition for ‘keeping
them in it’ and their number 3 who had a very energetic and competitive match.
On the Tiger’s side it was noted that Jamie had his best game yet for the
Whites and worryingly their free scoring number 5 failed to register a goal for
the first time this season! All Stars had a full team again this week and they
played some silky Futsal. Coruna lads struck first and competed for the
majority of the first half until their striker fell and injured his wrist. In a
very sporting gesture the All Stars sub played for the Blues and gave a
creditable performance. Unfortunately for Coruna the balance had gone and All
Stars, inspired by some brilliant finishing by their number 6 and number 7 who
scored 12 of the 15 goals between them, went on to a decisive victory. FC
Evolution got a jolt back to Earth when they were dismantled by the rapidly
improving Galacticos. These mainly Lindsey lads are playing some excellent
Futsal and should not be dismissed in terms of the title! Evolution, to be
fair, were a little out of sorts but I am sure that they will continue to
improve after an encouraging performance the week before against the All Stars.
Finally the Wanderers played the Untouchables, both teams failing to field a
full side. It is time that these two eager teams brought in some new blood to
boost their ranks. They will need a full compliment when playing Galacticos and
All stars in the next couple of weeks! Although I did not see this particular
game Danny Weltman refereed  it and said that both teams were a credit to
the league and played a hugely entertaining game. The next two weeks will be
run by Luke as I am away and on my return I will update the current top goal
scoring charts seen below. Enjoy your Futsal lads!

Semi Final Draw

Semi Final Draw:

Harvest vs. Gunners Watch

Harvest II vs. Grimsby Globetrotters

Games to be played Monday 14th

Quater Final Results:

Harvestbeat StreetSoccer (penalties) – Harvest II beat Littlefields (penalties)

Gunners Watchbeat Grimsby Auditorium by 1 gaol – Grimsby Globetrottersshock of night, beat Grimsby Catalonia by 2 goals  More details to follow.

I refereed 4 games with Brian Noble and every game was on a knife edge going into last minute.  The first two games being level could have obviously been nicked by a dramatic last gasp winner.

Gunners Watch was made to fight all the way by Auditorium who opened up a quick 2-0 lead, went 2-2, got back in front 3-2, level 3-3, again in front 4-3 and a shock was on the cards; credit to Gunners who rose to the situation and clawed there way to 4-4 and then grabbed a winner when penalties looked a certainly.

Globetrotters provide the shook result, 1 goal ahead with 30 seconds left, Catalonia had to through everyone forward, result a free shot into an open goal to make the semi finals 3 Monday Premier teams and 1 Kent St Tuesday team.

TLS IN FUTSAL SUCCESS!

2008lindsey_year_11_futsal_with_sir_trevor_brooking.jpg

The Lindsey School
and Community Arts
College football teams narrowly missed
out on a third national Futsal title after being beaten on penalties in Sheffield.

The weekend
saw both the Lindsey U14 and U16 boys teams in action at the English Institute
of Sport, where over 750 players and 1000 spectators were in attendance.

The morning
session saw both age groups competing in the group stages, which saw them face
teams from all around the country.

The U14
boys were in action first, and showed crisp passing and sublime movement in the
opening moments of the game. After conceding a sloppy goal, a Ricky Smith
strike with only thirty second left gave them a deserved point. The U16 boys
matched this in their first game, with a goal less draw against Brentford FC.

After a
crushing defeat in the second game, the U14 boys needed a win against Real FC
to seal their place in the cup knock out stages. Despite a scrappy performance,
a Jackson Bradley goal saw TLS into the quarter finals. They were joined in the
knock out stages by the U16 team, who won both their remaining fixtures, with
Joe Hutchinson and Chris Harmer in the goals, with assists from Alex Flett and
Luke Dawson.

The knock
out stages saw tough fixtures for both teams, with the U14 team against Kickers
Futsal and the U16 team playing Team Birmingham. The younger boys game was a
tight, edgy affair, with Lindsey having the best of the chances. With no
scorers in normal time, the game was to be decided by penalty kicks. ‘Keeper
Gary McGrath saved two penalties, with successful attempts by Ricky Smith and
Macaulay Crowther progressing TLS into the semi finals.

There was
less drama in the older boys age group, as Harmer and Hutchinson both stuck to
give Lindsey a fully deserved victory. Burley Community College
were their opponents in the semi finals, who were blown away by a superb
display of counter attacking futsal. Harmer, Hutchinson and Dawson all netted,
along with a rocket of a goal from pivot defender Tom Heaton.

The U14
team found their semi final opponents too strong and classy, though the result
might have been different if Ricky Smith shot went in instead of hitting the
post.

The final
game of the day was the U16 boys final between Lindsey and St. John Fisher
School
from Staffordshire.
After defeating them in the group stages Lindsey started as favourites, but
found the going tough against a tough and resilient outfit. Despite two red
cards, Lindsey could not break their opponents down, and so the tournament was
to be decided by spot kicks. Unfortunately for TLS they had one saved, which
meant the title went to Staffordshire, leaving Lindsey to contemplate on what
might have been.

Coach Les
Jones was understandably disappointed with the result. ‘Today I though we had
played the best Futsal out of all the teams, so to lose in a shoot-out am hard
to take. The boys were fantastic though.’

Fellow PE
teacher Rob Allenby was also proud of all the players. ‘Once again TLS has
demonstrated that we are one of the best Futsal playing schools in the whole of
the country. Hopefully our successes of the last few years might get more
people in the Grimsby
area playing.’

Wolf Wanders theWednesday facts

2nd Avenue has completed its (Wednesday) League XII.  League XIII has started with 11 teams and a waiting list to play!  If you are lucky enough to have Wednesday 2nd Avenue slot look after it, teams are waiting for that place.

Wolf Wanderers was champions, they was top of the table almost from the first game.  The tables below show that the top at the 1st February was the top 4 at the league end with just 1 position change between them. Hemswell being edged out to 4th place.  The top 4 had great + goal differences, which drop to negatives after middle placed Piemonte (+7).

Wolf Wanderers & GK Supplies have moved to Tuesdays and new challenges, Wanderers are keeping a Wednesday side.  AFC Trawl, Grimsby Saxons & Inter, have joined league.  Harvest & Grimsby Jets are waiting places in league.

FA Umbro Youth Futsal Festival 2008

 2008_clee_community_national_team2.jpg

Clee Community Town U10 Girls entered the National Futsal Finals at the
EIS in Sheffield on 21/6/08. It was our first experience of Futsal and playing
indoors in front of a big crowd. Early nerves lead to our elimination from the
cup competition, where we faced a superb team from the Sheffield United School
of Excellence.

We were then entered into the U10 Girls Plate. After our earlier disappointment
the girls got over their initial stage fright and went on to win the
competition with a resounding 6-0 victory in the final against Kickers Futsal
from London.

The tournament was superbly organised and played in a friendly and
sporting atmosphere. We would love to be invited back again soon.

Our squad for the tournament was Georgia Peers, Jessica Dunning, Chelsey
Ammari, Amy-Lea Smith, Demi-Leigh Ward, Paris Welsh and our captain for the day
Eden Pedersen
.

Harvest Premier League Champions 2008

The season has gone to the wire, had Gunners Watch beaten Harvest and Grimsby All Blacks beaten Fulstow Rovers then the Championship would have been All Blacks!

Grimsby All Blacks led the race for most of the season, but were let down by a mid season crisis.  People can debate in the forums who is the best ever Grimsby team, All Blacks will be mentioned in those discussions.  It worked against them that several players had jobs that could see them called out at short notice, I would hasten to add, not an excuse offered by the team.

Credit to Harvest FC; Mathew Bryant has achieved more in one season than his father, Kevin achieved in his career managing!  As well as the futsal league, they have dominated Saturday 11 v11 football, with an undefeated season reaping a league and Cup double.  Tuesday sees them in the Quarter Finals of the Grimsby Futsal Cup, can they be stopped?

Harvest II finished a credible 4th after a late season run of poor results took them out of the title race.

Gunners Watch are steadily rebuilding a side to make a League XIII challenge,  Fulstow Rovers & Grimsby Catalonia lifted their games late in the season whilst Young’s’ Seafood’s’ and Shamrock Rovers dipped, College 2001 had a season to forget, but they will be back, injuries to key players and players working away is now behind them.

Littlefields has been making progress through the leagues and will play in XIII.

The table illustrates the closeness of the teams, best goal difference 43, worst gaol difference -27, no team undefeated, even Harvest lost 3 and drew 2.

League XIII will be even better, there is just no room for comfort for any team.

Broughton Ravers Girls u/12 has great day at FA Futsal Finals

The Broughton Ravers team was:

Marie Smith, Mollie Smith, Chelsea Smith, Hayley Bunyan, Rhianna Phillips, Holly Donaldson, Sian Marshall, Kylie Huxford

Broughton Ravers U12 girls had a great day at the FA Umbro Futsal finals. They played some very skillful teams including FC Barca, Llanymymench Lymurs, Chalkstone Middle School, Kickers Futsal and Sheffield & Hallamshire.

They only managed to win one game  – the semi final of the plate competition. In the final they lost 2-1 on penalties to Sheffield Academy.

It was a superbly organised event held at a great venue. We really hope to be invited back next year.
