Junior Year 6/9 test proposed new rules

 GIJunFL

April is seeing Novartis host a month of friendly year 5/6 games. Ten teams are participating, all but two (Grimsby Soccer Juniors & Ameshi) are experienced at futsal.

The teams are trialing new rules, all put forward at a recent team managers meeting, before submitting to LFA as ‘actual rules.’

Team managers have asked that the slide tackle rules is re applied, that goal keepers throw the ball out when the ball is their hand, and that games are reduced to three fouls before the 10 meter penalty shot applies.

Spectators are being asked to watch from the opposite side of the field to the team coaches and players.

All apparently worked well on the first night, with the exception of the gaol keepers throwing the ball.  Not being allowed to kick the ball, I am reliably instructed, to many gaol keepers opted for the long throw. At the meeting managers said they did not want GK’s to kick the ball long as it was not teaching team mates how to pass and move and create space.  Are Gk’s taking the long throw option because team mates are not creating space for themselves, is it because the GK has no confidence in his team mates or is it bad practice.

Foreign junior team managers I have watched in the UK insist, win or lose, that their Gk’s are constructive.  I am of the same opinion,  short term the team may lose some games, long term the players benefit.
