Harvest II to meet Gunners Watch in final

Harvest II vs. Grimsby All Blacks Final Monday 28th
July

As anticipated the Grimsby Globetrotters run came to an end.  The score 8-0 was one many teams will be familiar with when Ryan Smith is uncontrollable form.  With age and experience on their side Harvest II was always in control; that said Globetrotters did not lie down and make it easy for them, they contested every ball to the last whistle.

Grimsby Globetrotters by getting to the semi in their first season of futsal have over achieved by some distance.  From their first games (defeats) at Kent Street they have battled through those early knock backs to a situation when they step on the field they will give most teams a contest.  The teams progress has been a steep learning curve, watch this space.

Harvest was beaten by a late Gunners gaol (2-3), leaving it to Harvest II to try and restore Harvest pride against Gunners steel.

The game had many good points to commend it, but unfortunately a list of negatives.  Bad manners to referees is unacceptable.    Players off limited technique are not in any position to criticise referees because they perceive they know refereeing better than the referee. It only high lites a closed mind that can’t recognize its own faults.

Both teams have players capable of playing futsal to a reasonable level, this is not meant as derogatory, but as anyone who has seen top level futsal will tell you, Grimsby is in need of some catching up.  This is not entirely down to the players, until given the opportunity to watch top teams on telivision or for real the improvement tactically will be slow, unless some  genius coach can break the code.

Rather than criticise referees Harvest & Gunners  should be working on set pieces from corners and free kicks, utilising the GK as an outfield player, building play in wide arreas, rotation of the players on the pitch. When all that’s in place and you have refereed a few games criticise the referee.

Futsal is the buiding block to playing good football.  Good footballers that can’t play futsal only high-lite the poor standard of local football.
