Futsal-6-we-30.11.13-367x306Defending national champions Leeds Utd made round 4 of the Football League Trust Fut5al League a week to remember as a last gasp Ryan Dobie goal gave them an epic 4-3 come from behind win over Grimsby Town.

Leeds enjoyed plenty of early possession but were slightly off with their execution in the final third early on as a highly motivated and well organised Grimsby side opened up a 2-0 lead through clinical counter attacking goals by Jack Burrows and Nathan Lambert.

After some halftime tactical adjustments Leeds posed much more of a threat as they set about reducing the deficit. Ryan Dobie brought Leeds back within one with a well finished counter attack before Josh Maskill tied things up with a lovely right foot drive to set up an exciting final 5 minutes.

Leeds Alex Turfrey finished well one on one to put Leeds 3-2 ahead before a deflected Tom Watters shot cruelly looped off a covering defender to leave Leeds keeper Leon Heeley stranded and bring the sides level at 3-3.

With only a minute to go after the Grimsby equalizer it appeared the points would be shared but not to be denied Leeds threw everyone forward with Ryan Dobie pouncing at the far post to score his second on the buzzer and send the Leeds players and coaches into raptures.

The win maintains Leeds 100% start to the season and sees them sit top of North East League One as the only remaining unbeaten side.

Later in the day Leeds United B’s bounced back from a disappointing defeat last time out to secure a comprehensive 6-2 win over Scunthorpe United. Josh Whiteley, Kyle Wilcox and James Scurrah all scored two as Leeds cruised to their third win out of five games this season. The win leaves Leeds B’s third in North East League Two, a point behind joint leaders Bradford and Grimsby.

Leeds coach Dav Doone commented after that game: “It’s been a good day for both sides today. The A’s showed great strength of character and determination to pull out a victory over a decent Grimsby side and the B’s played some wonderful football on route to a comprehensive win over Scunthorpe.”
