Futsal newcomers set a cracking early standard for under 10s’ teams moving forward

Grimsby Galaxy 2 Clee 4

The best u10 game I have refereed for a long long time. The passing of all the players was of the highest calibre, which is high praise given that both teams are relative newbie’s to futsal.

Galaxy scored the only goal of a very tight first half.

The second period goals flowed; Clee equalised and then moved to a 3-1 lead, Galaxy pulled back to 3-2 and a comeback looked likely until thwarted by a fourth Clee goal.

Galaxy paid what I call the ‘no subs price’.  Almost always the team with no substitutes suffers against a team with two or more substitutes as their energy bank depletes quicker.  7 players should always have a higher energy bank than an opposition with five.

Tuesday 22nd November u14 match reports:

Healing Athletico 5 Waltham Jets 4

From the start a very tight game, the referee having only a few fouls to record. For those that do not know in the u14 league if a team fouls 4 times in a half the opposition get a free 10 meter shot at the opposition goal. Every player must be behind the ball and not within 5 meters of the ball. The player taking the kick must shoot, he will be penalised if he passes. The keeper does not have to stand on his goal line; he can come 5 meters off if he chooses. Most pro keepers come couple meters off their line. If a team continues to add fouls extra free shots are awarded. Each half the foul count starts at zero.

Jets goalkeeper was good tactically playing the ‘fly keeper role’ giving Jets an extra attacking dimension.

Difference between the teams was Athletico converted a higher ratio of their chances.

Healing United 1 Caistor Tennyson 2

An extremely close match with both teams capable of playing possession futsal.

Healing defence had to be strong against an inform Caistor team that played fast counter attacking futsal.

Discoveries Eagles 3 Grimsby Carpet Warehouse 3

Both teams played extremely well, both teams playing intelligent passing futsal.

Discoveries had several great shots on target. GCW by contrast was always playing futsal that left the striker with less work to do.

A great game to referee.

Match reports by Callum Norman

Under 16s futsal delivers another great game as SubZero extend their unbeaten run..

SubZero 3 Grimsby Borough 0

Brandon Olly
MOM

I write every week that the u16 teams never fail to deliver, this was match was yet another in that linage.  The first half was nonstop attack and retreat for both teams, when the deadlock was broken both keepers made stop after stop to minimise the damage to their team.

SubZero managed to breach the Borough defence to lead 1-0 at half time. The goal was a typical SZ fast incisive counter attack with a clinical finish.

The second half was more of the same, Borough forced safe after save from the SZ keeper who was tested time after time. In between the Borough threat, SZ’s game, as it so often is – was invite the attack and quickly counter attack. Another such counter stretched the lead to 2-0.

Leo Hallibone scorer of 2 SubZero goals

SZ sealed the game with a third, a clever short corner, two passes and the ball is at the back post for a neat tap-in.  The only Borough lapse of concentration I can recall.

I had several choices for man of the match, both keepers, Brandon Olly (Borough) for an exceptional first half, and Leo Hallibone (SubZero) for two strikes that determined the match result. Brandon Olly MOM!
