  • Proposal to enter a Grimsby side in the FA National League. The FA have told me entry forms will be dispatched end of January, they point out this does not mean we are accepted, just that forms are on their way. The FA will then assess individual entries on merit.
  • The FA Futsal Cup (seniors) has moved back to its old formulae, the winners of qualifying leagues across the country will meet up at Regional Play Off’s with the eventual elite playing the FA National League teams in latter stages. Bit like Premier League teams joining FA Cup at third round stage.  Grimsby league has just received confirmation of inclusion.  More details will follow.
  • Following is a match report from referee Brad Milne:

Greenland’s 4-10 Red Dragons
The standard of the Grimsby school year 8/9 is an absolute credit to the whole local Futsal set-up. With another absolute cracker of a game being out at the YMCA. Although the score line suggests that the Red Dragons ran away with the game, after taking  a big, early lead Greenland’s always kept them in touching distance as they tried to fight the result back in their favour. Unfortunately for them they just ran out of time. Quick mention to a goal scored by the Red Dragons number 21, an individual masterpiece. The lad took a touch before back heeling the ball on the volley over the helpless goalkeeper from an around 10 yards out, sublime.

High praise.

  • Leagues are populating steadily, next league is for juniors school year 7/8, have several entries waiting to go, and few more would be excellent.
  • Throughout the leagues the standard keeps moving upwards, making it frustratingly difficult for the middle table teams who are making progress without closing the gap.
  • Only blip on horizon is lack of support for the Monday Intermediate league, reflected by low numbers of eleven aside teams at same age. Nice to keep an u18 league going but without sustained support teams will have to take joining senior league option earlier than they might have liked.
  • 🙂 Finally coaches, managers and those that just want to learn more, Sunday February 16th  at Hillsborough Leisure Centre, Sheffield – Barcelona futsal coach Carlos Lopez will be leading a Futsal Workshop. Tickets are £35 for the Workshop, batches of 4 tickets can be bought from me £30 each. More details 07980286663 or kevin@futsal.org.uk
