PAULO RICARDO “KAKÁ” COACHING VISIT TO GRIMSBY

copy_of_p1020028.jpgGrimsby stays top of the futsal tree with two top Brazilian
coaches Janio Cruz and Paulo Ricardo “Kaká” visiting to show their coaching
skills to a local audience of players and coaches. Janio has visited us before, this time he was
acting as interpreter aid to Paulo who was headlining the coaching. Paulo is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and
Russian where he has worked at top level for 6 years. Roberto’s playing career
including Barcelona Futsal team.

Brazilian coaches do have a different approach to UK
coaches, talk to them and they see futsal not only as a tool to improve futsal
the game, but as an integral tool to coaching football. If you can’t play
futsal well you don’t progress to play top level football they tell me.

Roberto coached three sessions, under 10’s, a mixed 13-16
session and last a Grimsby Soccer Club under 13 club sessions. Each session demanding a different set of
coaching skills, many of the youngest group have only attended a month futsal
coaching, the middle group was mixed levels of ability from novice to School of
Excellence, and probably the easiest was the Club group with all players of an
age and level ability. GSC had attended a previous Janio session and jumped at
the chance to partake again. The group
are County Champions but do not sit on their laurels, team manager Matt Bryant
is always seeking fresh training ideas and opportunities. Two Brazilians in his
own town was to good to be missed.

Each session started with a fun warm up, faces was smiling
from the off. Second a session that
cleverly used technique, passing, movement and shooting all in one stand alone
drill. Third a technique improvement class then finally a game with the players
free, (playing to futsal laws) to express themselves in a match.

A Player mistake was not left to correct themselves, Roberto
or Janio quickly stepped in to help the player immediately an error was spotted.

One watching grandparent was ex Ipswich Town player Kenny
Sharp, his mentor at Ipswich was the legendary England manager Sir Bobby
Robson, now if Kenny is impressed by Roberto then we can safely say we have
just had the pleasure of watching a top level coach at work.

Thanks Roberto and Janio on behalf of players, parents and grandparents.

Are the players paid?

My team players will
earn in region of 20, 000 US dollars a month. The team is sponsored by energy company
Gas Prom to the sum of 3 million dollars annually. We travel big distances to
play, we recently was drawn away in a CUP competition and agreed to play both legs
away to reduce travel. We won our equivalent of the home game 2-1 and lost the
away leg 6-5, leaving the competition as away goals counted double even though
we had never played at home!

Are matches on TV?

All games will be televised.
Futsal is huge in Russia, every school, college, university plays. Top
University games are on TV as well.
