Was playing in a 10 v 10 seniors match at Bradley this week, teams included at least 6 experienced football referees, two currently taking appointments in semi professional leagues.
A centre was driven in hitting the hand of a defending referee, he was adamant it was ball to hand, playing on the same team my immediate reaction was penalty, opposition referees was adamant it was a penalty. One referee was unsure and said he could not make a decision, he was rudely reminded that referees ‘have to make a decision!’
Most of these referee will be taking Division 1 Sunday League games this weekend. Just illustrates that sometimes there is no right decision, just the need to make ‘a’ decision. It’s the old adage, that everyone sees the same incident from a different viewpoint.
