Grimsby Borough Colts u16 futsal team excel at National Qualifiers

Grimsby Borough Colts U16’s traveled to Loughborough University to take part in the National Qualiffa-futsal-cup-logoiers after going unbeaten in the Grimsby League for nearly a year.

Their first game saw them come from a goal behind to run-out four one winners in the end. The second game saw them again go behind to an early goal, this kick-started Boro and they stormed into a six goal to one lead before conceding a late goal to end the game winning by six goals to two.

Their third game saw them come against Elite Futsal from Mansfield who are the current British Futsal title holders for the past three seasons!, so Boro’ were up against it. The game started off at a good pace with Elite showing why they have the top crown with some slick movement and deadly finishing, at half-time Boro’ were losing by four goals to one, after a quick discussion Boro’ hauled themselves back into the game with two quick goals which clearly shocked their opponents, with Boro’ going all out for the leveler Elite netted again, but once again Boro’ scored to reduce the arrears, this put the game on a knife edge and Boro’ were well in the game but alas it was time that saw them go down by five goals to four.

So a quick turnaround and a quick patch up of player’s saw Boro’ play their final League game but the previous games exploits had taken there toll as Boro’ looked totally shattered and dejected, they went down by five goals to three.

Borough were then given a lifeline when they had finished joint second in a three-way tie, so a draw was made and Boro’ were given a bye into the final, this gave the lads time to recover from their two quick succession of games, so they played the team that had just beaten them 5-3, but Boro’ were in no mood to let a second opportunity slip by and played the sort of Futsal that had got them to the Finals and came away winners by a single goal courtesy of skipper Peter Farrell.

Boro’ must now wait and see if their exploits were enough to see them enter the National Finals in Birmingham in August.

A great day for the team ; Matt Lewis, Kyle Hulse, Peter Farrell, Owen Burton-Smith, Ryan Green, Brad Elliott and Adam Williamson.

A great deal of thanks also goes to the parent’s who made the trip to support the lads throughout the day.
