Thursday Tournament Night – Kent Street Resource Centre

GIFL

A six team tournament played of two pitches with teams in
groups of three.

The worst scenario was that one group would be East Marsh
vs. East Marsh Inter vs. Everglaze. The three strong Kent Street teams have
played each other many times.  So what
happens when a random draw is made – all three teams are in same group.  Group 2 was unknown quantities on Kent Street
(Franklin College) vs. Grimsby Soccer Club vs. the youngest team (Toll Bar).

Games were straight 18 minutes, third foul a free 10 meter
shot at goal, no sliding.  Referees was
asked to be strict on ball into play i.e. Players gave kicker minimum three
meter space.

Everglaze gave the tourney a shock start with a convincing
win over East Marsh (4-1).

East Marsh Inter then opened up a can of worms holding
Everglaze to a draw (1-1).

East Marsh finally opened up against East marsh Inter with a
resounding win (6-1).

Everglaze winning group with four points.

Group two was a riot of goals, Franklin immediately adjusted
to smaller Kent St. pitch beating GSC (6-1) and Toll Bar (13-1).

Grimsby Soccer Club beat Toll Bar to take group second
place.

The finals was played on two adjacent pitches, on pitch one
Everglaze and Franklin dished up a futsal treat, both teams tested each other
to the limit, in boxing parlance Franklin College might have nicked it on
points.  Final score 0-0.  Only 0-0 because two brilliant keepers made
it that score.

Penalty shoot out, after all players had scored Franklin
missed, leaving Everglaze deserving Champions on the night.

Grimsby Soccer Club lifted their game a level to
surprisingly beat East Marsh 7-6 in the contest of second placed teams.
