Lions 3 Franklin College 9. Great advert for progression being made in junior futsal

Great night of senior futsal at Wintringham as first Lions (Intermediate League) took on an experienced Franklin College (Senior League).

This was always going to be tough ask for Lions, it was also going to tell its own story, as its impossible to know how close to playing senior futsal the young lads really are. This match answered some questions and doubts I had. Lions were closer to stepping up a level than I previously thought and in Brandon Woods had young player of night. Any of the senior teams would have taken him without second thought. Same goes for all the other Lions players, the older teams being desperate to grab some of the vitality of youth.

Score was 9-3 to Franklin, though I must add at this point Lions keeper was injured and was replaced by parent and ex goalkeeper Dave Bird, less agile than when he last played (I was reliably informed).

Great to have matched watched by parents and their protégé taking opportunity to experience faster more tactical senior futsal.
