After a year or so playing in a combination of the under
19 league and men’s league with Bottesford Town, former Grimsby Futsal Club
player Josh Parry was given the chance to break into football’s pro ranks when
St Andrews of Luxol (Malta) gave him a trial in September this year.

Lija Atheletic of the same Division 1 also trialled him
and Josh was lucky enough to have made enough impact in the three weeks of
trials that he could choose which club to play for. Josh returned in October to
Malta and began his career with StAndrews in their reserves/youth team and was
restricted by administration (FIFA registration) to just four games in which he
scored three goals. His ability has been assessed by the former professional
players running the club and they could not believe his technical skills coming
from Britain! His reply was very simple; " I have played futsal at the
highest level in England and three years of constant competition taught me more
than any of my years with Hull City’s, Scunthorpe United’s and Grimsby Town’s
academies did!"

He began training twice a day a month before christmas
and his coach is very keen on his progression. His current youth/ reserve team
play in the top flight and therefore he is constantly in the ‘shop window’ and
the week before Christmas he scored a 30 yrd last minute free kick against
Valletta the country’s biggest and most famous club. A moment he won’t forget
and one that really got him noticed.Josh returned yesterday after the Christmas
break and is looking forward to progressing into the first team proper and a
chance to appear in prestigious competitions that may even lead to the
Champion’s league or indeed the EUFA cup.

Futsal can give a player the chance to hone skills
unadmired by many in this country; close control, excellent first touch, calm
decision making in tight areas and an eye for goal but it is a shame players
that are small but skilfull have to leave these shores to fulfill their dreams.
Wake up FA and quickly do you not watch La Liga?
