YMCA Futsal Float – experienced from the inside

2014 Carnival - ready to go

2014 Carnival – ready to go

What a day, 9 a.m. futsal coaching at YMCA, return home 10.30 to shower and change into fresh clothes ready for my carnival appearance. I would point out that when YMCA suggested a carnival float I agreed under consensus that my only job would be to get bodies on the float. That went from ‘meet you at the float’ to ‘meet you on the float!’ be at Sidney Park 2p.m – 2.30 at latest was ok if float was leaving at 2.45. The first float exited at 3.15, as we was second to last in parade (item number 78) it was almost an hour before we exited park.P1020551 - Copy

The float had YMCA decorative futsal banners down side and 2 goals on board at either end of float, younger lads played football from park to Meridian Centre, some achievement on a moving vehicle. Some of the older lads was concerned about their street cred’ before we left park, all that changed as group of girls followed them to Meridian Park.

From my position on the float my perspective of carnival changed. Yes I missed the carnival because I was on it, but what a privilege to see so many spectators supporting us. There was no gap in crowds from Sidney Park to Meridian Centre, that is some distance and I talking both sides of the road.

Clee lads checking out their 'groupie' followers!

We already had a de brief and discussed 2015, yes the man who hated carnival is planning for 2015!

2015 YMCA is aiming at winning best float, planning has started, watch this space.
