The Grimsby Futsal League is increasing its leagues, new teams whether part of a current club or a group of friends are welcome to participate.  A school year 6/7 league started 1st April with a school year 5/6 league to commence late April.

The league has an established School year 9/10 and 4/5 leagues playing every Monday and Tuesday respectively on the astro court at Novartis.  The GFL has a year 11/12 league taking a short break whilst teams fulfil eleven side commitments. The Titan’s team from league will be representing the Lincolnshire County FA in the 2014 FA Futsal Cup.  To date Grimsby has produced two National Champions and one semi finalist. Titan’s are capable of at least reaching the latter stages of the competition.

The year 9/ 10 league started 2011 and currently has 12 teams playing teams being split into two divisions. All the original eight teams are still supporting the futsal league.

Futsal rules demand fair play and enforce players to play skilfully, the pace of the game improves fitness and speed of thought, whilst the confined pitch area, coupled with the fact that players have to play to court lines (off the walls is not allowed, is scientifically proved to improve technique. Some players will play futsal to improve their fitness to play football, others, the majority play because they love the ‘sport’ of futsal.  Futsal is easily the planets most played small sided sport.

Because the game is structured with teams affiliated to the Lincolnshire County FA through to the FA and eventually FIFA there are opportunities to progress in futsal just as there are in the traditional eleven aside game.  Local futsal referee Gavin Sartain has achieved the ultimate FIFA level; Dan Mawer is refereeing FA National League senior matches. Paul Goodhand has played for England whilst Ben Mortlock is England’s most capped player. Jack Burrows is in the England under eighteen squad. Futsal has given these people an opportunity to travel the world, which otherwise they may never have had.

For those that want to mix education with football (futsal) Grimsby Town offer a highly successful BTEC course. The futsal team being in the top sixteen in a competition that includes every Football League club. Who said Grimsby can’t produce talented footballers.

Futsal is the format of Small-Sided Football that is recognised and supported by FIFA and UEFA with World and European Championships for club and National Teams.  The name ‘Futsal’ combines the Spanish words for ‘Hall’ – Sal and ‘Football’ – Futbol into Futsal.  It is a five a-side game played with hockey –sized goals and a smaller ball with a reduced bounce.  As a small sided game, players are constantly placed in situations where they must receive or play whilst under pressure or in a confined spaces and it places considerable demand on technique, movement, tactical awareness and fitness.
