YMCA 2012 CUP FINALIST

YMCA 2012 CUP FINALIST

Three games all decided by one goal.

Dynamite clawed back a 2-0 deficit to level 2 each, Holton Le Clay responded to lead 3-2 and then the turning point of an engrossing game – Dynamite scored twice to lead for the first time in the game. With the game in its last stages did Dynamite feel they had done enough? New Waltham dug deep, equalised and in the final seconds grabbed a winner.  Every goal scored had merit.

Red Dragons vs. New Waltham, based on previous form, this looked a home win.  Dragon’s aided by their two new signings was always in front, but never comfortably safe, New Waltham gave them trouble throughout the game and when an ‘og’ closed the score to 2-3 Dragons was hanging on.

YMCA 2 Lions 3. As YMCA coach I have a bias on this game. Probably the best YMCA have played, some brilliantly constructed moves, futsal passing and inter changing of positions at its best.  All this with a new goal keeper adapting to a new game.  The Achilles heel for the team continues to be failure to score, even within inches of the gaol.

Lions accepted after the game they used a lot of ‘long ball’ tactic as they had taller players and needed to take advantage of that tactically.

There was so much activity and intensity to the game I could write a book, the result balanced on two major instances:

1                     YMCA new keeper touched a ball from a keeper throw out from the opposite end goal into his own goal, as he had touched the ball the goal counted.  He now knows if he had not touched the ball the goal would have been disallowed (same from a kick in).

2                     A ball somehow cleared off the Lions goal line when everyone watching believed it had to go in!
