Futsal video showing the opportunities open to a goal keeper to attack in open play

Many times I have spent time explaining to futsal keepers’ how they can be a dynamic asset to my futsal team, and not just a shot stopper, as important as that is.

This is usually no fault of the keeper, it’s because they play, mainly as football keepers, where the dynamic opportunities offered in this video never arise.

Wednesday February 1st Match Reports / Under 13s

Game 1

Catenaccio Bulls 2 v 9 Clee Trinity FC

The first game of the night opened with both teams playing physically, giving away a few early fouls. Trinity took the lead early with a well finished goal to open the scoring. A similar theme followed, with an excellent first half performance from Trin’s number 8 being capped off by a lovely top corner goal. Catenaccio got one back though, scoring an indirect freekick which was given away by a mistaken Trinity pass back to the keeper. However, Trin used their set pieces very well and therefore continued to build on their lead for the rest of the game.

Game 2

Catenaccio Lions 1 v 3 Catenaccio Pattons Blue

2 very skilful and technical slides took to the court for the second game. Lion’s number 11’s impressive goal line clearance kept the game level early on despite Blue’s pressure. However, Blue’s managed to stretch away as the first half progressed, scoring 2 goals. Lion’s keeper performed an impressive double save to keep the score low, though this was soon negated by an unfortunate Lion’s own goal. Some impressive saves from Blue’s keeper were not enough to keep a clean sheet as the game finished 3-1

Game 3

Waltham U11z 1 v 3 Clee Patterson’s Black

The third game of the night opened with a tight and low scoring first half, with both teams going into half time level at 1-1. The game was very cagey throughout, following into the second half. A well struck, powerful Patterson’s free kick gave them the 2-1 lead which both teams were fighting for, allowing the game to open up more. This lead to another Clee goal before the end, with the game ending 3-1 in their favour.

Game 4

Clee Patterson’s All Stars 1 v 5 Grimsby United

United’s sweeper keeper style worked well in the start of this game, allowing them to control the ball in their own third of the pitch. The opening of the last game was very tight and fast paces – a great watch. United’s number 6’s mazy run found them the lead with a good finish, opening the game up and allowing the game to open up, leading them into half time a couple ahead. This form carried on into the second half, with United dominating the remainder of the game.

Monday evening U16 Futsal League / SubZero 5 Grimsby Borough 3 / What a game!

SubZero
2023

The passing throughout the game was at professional academy level. I cannot remember Borough playing better, how they went in at half time 0-2 is a mystery.

Beginning of the second half they pinned SubZero back, which is not seen often, and within minutes the score was levelled to 2-2. For me this was the key moment in the game, Borough probably relaxed slightly having got back level; SubZero’s experience grasped the moment and re-took the lead. With hind sight maybe Borough should have consolidated play at 2-2 and then in their own time worked towards a winner. We will never know. All I can say it’s a situation I have seen before.

With more substitutes than Borough and a 2-0 goal lead the game had turned. More substitutes should mean more energy on the bench. Very useful at the end of a game when tiredness can lead to personal errors that can cause havoc to all the good stuff that went previously. In theory, and usually in practice, the team with the lowest numbers of players should hit that point first. In this case it did, SZ went to 3-2; 4-2; Boro pulled a goal back; 3-4. Finally SZ got a 5th as Boro threw everything at an equaliser.

The best match I have refereed for a long long time. ; A credit to both teams and their management.

Back row > Harvey Smith, Alfie Chambers, Leo Hallibone, Ethan Lowe, Dennis Matei, Jack White, Leo Wilcock.

Front row > Zak Wagstaff, Hayden Jackson, Jay Gunn.

Week commencing January 23rd Match Reports

SubZero 7 V 1 Wybers FC SubZero is proving a tough nut for teams’ to crack. Wybers had key players missing, which added to their challenge. Has to be told that they never capitulated, midfield they was an equal, it’s the penalty box at both ends that is setting SubZero apart.
Humberston Futsal 3 V 6 Grimsby Borough JFC Fascinating game, just as the previous game the younger team was the equal in the middle of the court. This game Humberston utilised the extra player, ‘power play rule’, when they was 4 goals in deficit. Every time they utilised an extra player they dominated play. This was the First time in many years refereeing that I have seen the rule make such a noticeable difference. For me it’s a great rule, it will never alter a result, but what it achieves is that it gives new challenges to a game that is losing its impact.

Caistor Tennyson Tigers FC kf 3 V 2 All Blacks FC kb Welcome to newbie’s the All Blacks. The All Blacks gave the experienced Caistor lads a testing time.
Grimsby Carpet Warehouse sm2 7 V 3 Healing Athletico ac GCW are a tough opposition at the best of times, playing them without a substitute is asking too much.  Credit that they managed to score 3 goals.

GCW secured the game tactically by continually pressing Healing using the extra energy they had on the bench.

Discoveries Eagles’ du 6 V 1 Healing United sc Not Healings best night. Eagles will be backing themselves to top the ladder, on this form they will be take some beating.
Corinthians CCcic kb 1 V 7 Seven Seas jb Corinthians started well against a Seas team sprinkled with match winners. Game ran away from Corinthians in the second period.
Waltham Jets sc 2 V 1 Catenaccio JFC am This head to head never disappoints. The older Jets team keep edging the contest whilst the young upstarts keep punching above their weight. Two great keepers kept the score low.

The Cold weather is no fun that said it’s not stopping Tuesday night u14s & 15s playing some great futsal to entertain their supporting parents.

Happily some indoor futsal is on the horizon, first I have a meeting next week to discuss the format for the FA Pokémon Cup, and this has to be played indoors.  Second we are in discussion to send teams over to Hull where they don’t have the indoor booking problems we have this side of the water.

All Blacks vs, Caistor

George
All Blacks

Man of the match performance  from George, first time I have seen George play futsal and he took to it like a duck to water. Great feet,

Grimsby Carpet Warehouse vs. Healing Athletico

Leo
Grimsby Carpet Warehouse

Had several choices for MOM but Leo’s consistency in keeping his team moving forward edged out the others.

Discoveries Eagles vs, Healing United

Ethan Discoveries Eagles 2023

A  Dominate display in the defensive pivot role. Most games I have seen Ethan play he has mostly played the attacking pivot role. The defensive role did not stop him attacking, it gave him the perfect platform.

Corinthians vs. Seven Seas / Kieran

Keiron
Corinthians CIC

Always in control of the left side of the Corinthians defence and midfield.  Yet again another impressive newcomer.

Week on week Fred is a driving force his team, strong with a great in-built passing ability.

Futsal Restart gets off to a Cold & Windy Flyer:

Monday Under 16/15 League
Grimsby Borough 5 V 3 Humberston Futsal Credit to Humberston who had late illness withdrawals which left them with no substitutes. Something Borough is always going to take advantage of with them has extra legs on the subs bench.

Boroughs always lead and dominated control of the game. Two late Humberston goals flattered the score line.

Bizarre fact is that the 3 best goals were scored by Humberston!

Tuesday Under 14/13 League
Caistor Tennyson Tigers FC 3 V 3 Discoveries Eagles’  Tight tight match. Caistor got off to a great start but at end team was fighting to secure a draw.
Discoveries Town Blue 4 V 8 Seven Seas  Seas had 2 in the net before Blues woke up. Given Seas dominance it is a credit to the Blues that they managed to score 4.
Discoveries Town Red 2 V 8 Grimsby Carpet Warehouse sm2  GCW showed just why they are current champions and the team to beat.
Catenaccio JFC 2 V 3 Waltham Jets  The second half was one way traffic with Catenaccio, assisted by a driving wind, penning Jets into their own half. Jets showed great resilience to see off the threat.
Healing Athletico 1 V 2 Healing United Two teams from the same 11 aside team, on paper, looks a drab game. Not the case with this game, the game was competitive throughout with both sets of players playing for bragging rights.
Night was a credit to all the players; to come back from a winter break and play to such a high level is tough, even more so when the weather is as atrocious as it was.

Wednesday Under 13/12’s
Cleethorpes Trinity FC 6 V 5 Discoveries Dynamo This game was very back and forth all the way through, with both teams scoring some impressive goals and persisting until the final whistle. Trinity took an early lead, taking the game by a few goals. The game then became more physical as the score line got closer, making the game play out in a very stop-start manner with many fouls and free kicks – a result of both teams showing strong grit and determination to win the game. Despite Dynamo’s efforts, Trinity ended up taking the game as 6-5 winners in the end.
Clee Pattersons All Stars 3 V 1 Grimsby United Clee took an early lead in this game, which was arguably against the run of play as United showed some good moves in the early stages. The first half remained tight, with yellows taking control of the game through some good passing moves. Skillful play from Clee’s number 23 lead to a near miss at the beginning of the second half, Clee almost giving themselves breathing space. United managed to get one back after this, but this was soon cut short as Clee took through being entirely clinical in front of goal, leading to a 3-1 victory.
Clee Pattersons Black’s 1 V 7 Discoveries Eagles The third game of the night proved to be a relatively one-sided game. Eagles took to the pitch, bringing a good blend of strength and physicality, as they very often do. I found the play of Eagles’ number 27 particularly impressive, with his tidy footwork allowing him to set up his teammate for an early goal. Despite Pattersons’ best effort and good organisation, Eagles carried this level of dominance into the second half, leading to a comfortable 7-1 win.
Waltham u11z 3 V 5 Catenaccio Pattons Blue Game 4 started evenly with both teams exchanging goals in the early stages of the game. Catenaccio lead at the break after being the more offensive team throughout the first half. Despite Waltham’s extra player (awarded after accumulating a 4 goal deficit) Catenacio continued to dominate the game early in the second half. However, through good organisation and discipline, Waltham were able to make a late surge, scoring a few goals which unfortunately weren’t enough to steal the game – Catenaccio won 5-3 in the end.
Catenaccio Bulls 5 V 0 Catenaccio Lions The inaugural match in our new 7.45 – 8.30 slot of the night saw two evenly matched Catennacio teams take to the pitch. There was an early exchange of goals through some unfortunate keeper mistakes. An excellent ball from a red defender allowed their striker to take the lead from a rebound. The reds took this more technical and physical blend into the second half, resulting in a 5-3 win.
Thursday we had 21 players down for an open futsal coaching session for players aged u13. New players welcome. Parents please ring 07980286663
Friday Evening u10s  – All Ages u12 Welcome to enter 4 team Mini Tournaments
Grimsby Galaxy 3 0 Grimsby Borough Colts Three excellent games with, I believe all coaches getting out of the matches what they wanted, mainly maximum number of touches of the ball and with a flat surface opportunity for the players to develop their passing and movement.
Clee 2 2 Grimsby Galaxy
Grimsby Borough Colts 2 0 Clee
